How to Throw an Unforgettable Kids Birthday Party

How to Throw an Unforgettable Kids Birthday Party

Kids take their birthdays very seriously, and are extremely disappointed if their birthday parties are anything short of spectacular. Throwing an unforgettable kids birthday party can sometimes seem like a task better suited for a professional event planner. But with the proper party supplies, a little know how and a lot of imagination, you can throw a birthday party that the kids will be talking about all year.
Before you let your inner party planner take over, make sure that throughout the process you consult with the birthday boy or girl, unless of course the party is a surprise. Kids have their own ideas of what makes a party fun, and if the kids don’t have a good time the party is a bust. Discuss possible theme ideas, party games, food, and favors with them to ensure everything is kid friendly. If you are planning a surprise party you can ask siblings or friends for ideas and opinions.
Theme Party Ideas
A successful kids birthday party starts off with a great theme. There are many great party themes you can choose from, everything from your child’s favorite toy to their favorite movie genre. The possibilities are endless and a good theme can really help pull your entire party together.
Some possible themes include:
Western (complete with cowboy hats)
Princess (tiaras for all the girls)
Cartoon characters
Disney
Carnival (clowns and plenty of games)
Toys (Bratz, Barbie, Hot Wheels, etc)
Once you have your theme chosen, planning out a kids birthday party becomes much easier. Try and get everything from the decorations to the food to tie into the theme. For instance, if you are throwing a Western theme party get cowboy birthday banners and serve up barbequed burgers, chili, and hot dogs. As party favors you can give each little guests their own cowboy or cowgirl hat to wear. Make sure the birthday boy or girl’s hat is extra special.
Fun and Games
Games are an important part of any kids birthday party. Games should be fun and get everyone involved. Offering some small prizes to the winner of each game is also a great idea for the kids. Have a variety of games, some that require the kids to get active and some that requires them to use their heads. This will give everyone an opportunity to win a prize.
Some fun kid’s games include:
Musical chairs
Pin the tail on the donkey (this can be tied into your party theme, for example if your theme is Disney you could have pin the ears on the mouse)
Relay races (you can get really creative with this one and get the kids to do everything from run a course with a balloon stuck between their legs to three legged races)
Memory games (show the kids a selection of items and see who can remember the most once you have taken them away)
Favors are one of the highlights for children at a birthday party. They love getting little gifts of their own to take home with them. You don’t need to get too extravagant when it comes to party favors. Try and get some favors to go along with your theme. If you are having a princess theme give the girls tiaras as they arrive and a bag full of beauty items. Hairbrushes, hair clips, nail polish, and lip gloss are all fun and inexpensive ideas. More general favor ideas include pencil and eraser sets, notepads, and candies.
Food for Thought
Party food is a key component to any great birthday party. Depending on how long the party is, you’ll probably want to offer a lunch or dinner as well as snack and treats throughout the day. Most kids don’t have discriminating tastes so you don’t need to go overboard with a gourmet meal. Simple is usually better when it comes to kids.
Keep your snacks standard. Candy, chips, and pop will suffice, there is no need to add any fancy appetizers to the mix since they will probably get ignored. However, adding a veggie and fruit plate is a good idea since even kids can get sick of the sweet stuff. Be sure to have plenty of beverages on hand, and to save your sanity try and avoid caffeinated pops. Juice and water should be on hand as well. You can also make a fun colorful fruit punch for the kids to enjoy.
As for food, stick with simple dishes such as pizza, burgers, and hotdogs. These items are simple to prepare (or order) and will be a hit with the kids. Before planning your menu check to see if any of the children have food allergies or special dietary needs. Most parents whose kids have serious allergies such as peanuts will probably let you know as soon as the invitation is accepted. However, if you’ve got a little vegetarian in the group the last thing you want to do is serve them a hamburger or hotdog.
The birthday cake is the piece de resistance of the party. Everyone loves to see what type of delightful cake will be presented and how many candles the birthday boy or girl can blow out. If your baking skills consists of adding eggs and water to a package mix, fear not. While a package cake will still be a hit with the kids, there are plenty of cake shops and bakeries that can create any cake you desire. For instance, if you’re going with a baseball sports theme, you can get a delicious cake of any type shaped like a baseball. The kids will love it, and it saves you time and frustration as well. Make sure you know the birthday boy or girl’s favorite flavor before you order.
While planning a birthday party can be a difficult and time consuming task, all the work will be worth it when you see how much fun all the kids have. Birthday parties are monumental occasion for kids, and the more special you can make it the better.

Three Fun Birthday Party Ideas at No or Very Little Cost

Three Fun Birthday Party Ideas at No or Very Little Cost

When you get into planning a birthday party, ideas pop into your head and the most common thought is one that will be cost effective and fun at the same time.  Birthday party supplies can cost more than the actual gifts but not if you look around and see what you can get for your money.  The most common thing that people want to do now is throw a birthday party with a theme.  Birthday party themes come in all shapes and sizes, from sports to theater to Barbie and super heroes for children’s parties.  The following birthday party ideas are meant to be cost effective for the party thrower and fun for the party goers.

Instead of buying supplies, try making your own decorations and cake.  If you have a computer, you can use one of your programs to make your own “Happy Birthday” banner.  This will save on buying a banner or special ordering a banner so that the name will be included.  Other decorations can be made from paper plates that have been drawn on and colored, as well as using blank white or colored paper that has been drawn on and colored as well.  These homemade decorations can be hung up with cheap cloth string that can be bought at the dollar store or can be hung up with fishing line.  As far as the cake goes, you can buy a nice brand of cake mix, some frosting and sprinkles, then bake and decorate the cake yourself.  This won’t only be fun for you; this will also mean more to the person whose birthday it is.

The second birthday party ideas should be to make your own theme.  If it is a child, find out what their favorite sport is or their favorite color.  A university student once chose to have a “Rubik’s Cube” theme party.  With this theme, he called everyone who would be coming to the party and asked them to wear an outfit where each piece of clothing was a color from the Rubik’s cube.  The object of the night was not only to celebrate his birthday but also to see if everyone could end up in an outfit of entirely one color of the Rubik’s cube by exchanging clothing.  His made up theme for his party ended up being a huge hit for not only himself but also for all of his friends that came to celebrate his birthday.

Finally, when making decorations or creating your own theme is out of the question due to time constraints, your local dollar store will have everything you need.  Different color streamers, ribbons, and balloons can be bought for less than ten dollars.  Though these decorations will only last for one party, they will be cheap and fun for all.

Make It Fun! Birthday Party Themes Are A Great Idea

Make It Fun! Birthday Party Themes Are A Great Idea

Decorating a birthday party according to a theme not only makes it easy to plan, but it also makes it fun! Themes add life and adventure to birthday parties, allowing party goers to lose themselves in a make-believe paradise. Now that’s the stuff great birthday parties are made of! So to help you find a birthday party theme and appropriate decorations, here are some great ideas that will turn an ordinary birthday into an extraordinary birthday party! But a word of caution to eager buyers, before purchasing birthday party decorations of a particular theme it is important to consider two things; the age appropriateness of the theme and the likes/dislikes of the person whose birthday you are celebrating. So now that you know, here are some great ideas for birthday party decoration themes!

For kids, a birthday party means excitement and color, so don’t disappoint them. A great party theme for children is a fantasy theme; usually a theme from a Disney movie or a favorite storybook will turn any birthday party into a fun-filled festival! A great theme that has been favored by many a little girl has been ‘Cinderella’s Midnight Ball’ and the best part is that it is a theme that can easily be created just by decorating the backyard with lights and elegant streamers and anything that you think will give the theme a truly magical feeling!

Another popular theme in recent years has been the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ theme, and it is amazing to see how backgrounds of wrecked ships, drift wood on lawns and chests overflowing with shining treasure can make the movie jump off the screen and come to life.

Okay, so the kids are grown and no longer enjoy childhood theme parties. Well you still have many, many options for adolescents and young adults, and you may even find yourself enjoying the party too! A favorite birthday theme party among teens and even adults is the ‘Hawaiian Luau’ theme. Grass skirts, coconut bras, tiny umbrellas, tropical shirts, candles on wicker stands, festive garlands, Hawaiian cuisine and even real sand; what’s not to love about this theme! Surely you can understand why this birthday party theme is a classic.

And if the birthday boy/girl just happens to be a little older, you can spice up the party theme by making it an infamous ‘Pool Party’. A crystal clear blue pool heated by warm sunshine makes the best first impression on party guests, and when they see the floating lounges in the pool, sun glasses spread out everywhere and huge beach balls just waiting to be thrown around, your guests will definitely find out first hand exactly how much fun a themed birthday party can be! Oh, and don’t forget the sunscreen.

If you feel at a loss when it comes to dinner party ideas you are most definitely not alone

If you feel at a loss when it comes to dinner party ideas you are most definitely not alone

First of all you really want to consider your guests. You may have a certain guest of honor that will be in attendance. This individual is certain to have specific likes and tastes that will be perfect motivation for your dinner party ideas. Following are ways to use your special guest as inspiration.

Let’s say that you have a relative who loves the old movie classic “Gone with the Wind” and you are inviting this person to your event. Why not create a theme around the classic feel of the movie? There are many reasons that you would want to embrace this particular theme for your dinner party ideas.

The menu options are seemingly endless. Southern cooking appeals to all different tastes and you can find countless recipes for the dinner party ideas. Of course, you want to make mint juleps both in the leaded and unleaded versions but other than that your options are quite various and you can get really creative with this theme.

Remember that entertaining ideas should leave you a lot of room for using different recipes that everyone will enjoy. The themes are useful in putting your dinner party ideas together but they can be stifling. I know this for a fact because I came up with an idea for a dinner event that didn’t go over so well.

The guest that I targeted for my dinner party ideas for this particular event loves seafood, especially shellfish. I used her love of this type of food as the center theme for the event. I included different types of shellfish and I even added little details like lobster bibs in the presentation.

There was a slight problem with this. Two of my guests were allergic to shellfish. While the concept was pretty nice it was just too exclusive and it really didn’t accommodate everyone in attendance. I could have been a little more creative in the dinner party ideas in this case.

A better approach would have been a land and sea affair that offered foods that land-lovers and sea-lovers could each enjoy. After considering a general theme for you dinner party ideas it is usually a good idea to expand on them a little just to make sure that everyone in attendance will enjoy themselves.

Learn About The Tips That Separate The Real Estate Selling Pros From The Amateurs (3)

Learn About The Tips That Separate The Real Estate Selling Pros From The Amateurs

There are so many things that you should know before you are able to be truly successful in selling real estate. Key and prime locations, marketing, and conversion of prospect clients are all elements that you want to master – and these tips can really give you a great edge in learning more about the important elements of real estate selling.

To get the best value in real estate start by finding the right agent to work with. An agent who works in the business full time is going to have access to better contacts that you’ll need than someone working part time in the business. They will know more about the trends in the market as well.

Spruce up the kitchen before you list your home on the market. Make small changes like updating the hardware on the cabinets, add a fresh coat of paint to the walls or the cabinets, add some new light fixtures, maybe a new faucet and curtains. These things are inexpensive and will add appeal to your kitchen.

While many people are trying to save a few dollars where they can, don’t skimp when it comes to selling your house. Hiring a real estate agent will help you get your house sold faster, and for a better price. These people are trained in what they are doing, so trust that they will help you.

One of the most important components of successfully landing a real estate sale is to make sure that the property has a clean and new appearance. Before purchasing property, most buyers will come to inspect it, particularly in the case of homes. Even if the condition can be easily repaired, having a poor appearance will definitely turn off the buyer. Taking the effort to make the property as presentable as possible will make selling it significantly easier.

Make changes to your home that prospective buyers can see. You can upgrade the heating system or install central air conditioning, but if your home is dirty, has broken fixtures, or needs paint, potential buyers will be turned off by it. They will see the home as needing a lot of work even if the internals are sound.

If you have already moved out of your home that you are trying to sell, consider staging it so it is more inviting to the potential buyer that is looking at it. Renting furniture or using some that is your own is the best way to give them the feeling of how the house will look once it is furnished.

People looking to sell their property, need to remember that their property is no longer about them. Decorate property in neutral colors so it is easier for potential buyers to envision themselves in the home. Other ways of inviting the imagination of others include, keeping only your finest furniture out and taking care of spring cleaning early. A clean, simple home will always entice buyers to consider for a few extra minutes.

Don’t lose your head when you encounter a misunderstanding or a confusing manner. Only when you can get the right information and use it correctly can you really master the various elements of selling real estate today. With a highly diverse market, you need tips like these to ensure you remain on the right track to success.

Goal Getting – An Alternate Way To Approach Your Direct Sales Business

Goal Getting – An Alternate Way To Approach Your Direct Sales Business

In my many years of Party Plan direct selling I have seen it time and time again… women come home from their annual convention fired up, determined that by next year they’ll be able to walk the stage in the top 10, earn the cruise and have enough income to purchase their dream home on the ocean. It is great to come home motivated and excited about your company. Having big dreams is a wonderful thing!
Sometimes, however, it’s just not realistic for the average WAHM who wants a life outside of her business. Because she has just heard some wonderful goal setting advice from the top leaders in our company she sets those wonderful goals, posts them on the fridge with a picture of the dream home circled in red pen and she looks at them every day.
But the reality of it is, many work at home moms have life boundaries that they are unwilling to cross. And those boundaries will make it very difficult to achieve even one of those goals. Because of this, unfortunately, many women who could have a wonderful and fulfilling career in direct sales quit because the goals they’ve set are just plain unrealistic for where they are in life. Instead of enjoying the benefits of a business with the freedom and flexibility to earn some money while still living the rest of life, they assume they’ve failed because the unrealistic goal was just that… unrealistic for now.
That said, if you’re a mom like me who has a full life with other involvements and time commitments that you are unwilling to shelve even temporarily for your direct sales business, you might enjoy an unorthodox approach to goal setting. I like to call it Goal Getting.
With Goal Getting you are looking at your life and determining exactly what you can expect from your Direct Sales business based on your priorities and life commitments. Basically, you’re working backward from the usual goal setting process.
First, let’s lay some groundwork. If you are married, talk with your husband about your schedule. If you were to say to him, “Honey, I’m planning on being out four nights a week for the next 6 months so I might earn a cruise,” what will he say? What about three nights? Two nights? Is one night a week or even one night a month the more realistic schedule for you? You can always come back to him after you’ve written down your schedule (see next step) to add in an extra day or two or more.
Now, here’s where the work comes in. If you don’t already have a master family calendar, it’s time to get one! Get a nice big calendar with room to write in each day of the month. Pull out all the schedules you have, school, church, mom’s groups, bunco nights, etc, and put them all on there for as many months out as you can. Do you have date nights with your hubby regularly (if not, you should… but we’ll save that for another day)? Is there a TV show that you absolutely will not miss for ANYTHING and are not willing to record? Be realistic here ladies…some moms come into a business and say, “Oh, I can sacrifice ‘Survivor’ to do a party” but then the first time a party comes along on that night, and they resent having to give it up. Do yourself a favor and admit it…and schedule around it!
Do not just look at evening activities, but write in the daytime stuff too. Think through a typical week for your family. You want a realistic picture of what is there. So few women do this but it’s a worthy exercise no matter what home business you are in but particularly with Direct Sales where being away from home for a party or workshop is a given.
Now, take that full calendar back to your husband and work together with him to determine how many and which nights would be best for you to be away. Meet with the rest of the family and talk over what this is going to look like so everyone is on the same page.
The groundwork is laid…now let’s GET the goals…
1. Find out from your company what their average party/workshop sales are. This will likely be your average too and even if your totals are higher, use this average for the goal getting process since it will allow for cancellations, reschedules and the like.
2. Based on your commission structure, and basic costs of doing business, determine how much you’ll take home from an average party.
3. Multiply that number by the amount of parties you’ve determined you can do in any given month.
Ok, now what do you think of that number? Not bad, huh? Do you want it to be higher? Talk with your family again and see if there are any changes that can be made, but remember that those changes will mean sacrifices in other areas of your life. That’s fine but just remember that you cannot have it all!
Although many hope for it, most in the home party plan business will not reach the $100,000 annual achievers club and the company incentive trip while still being the president of the PTA, singing in the church choir, being the Girl Scout Troop leader, having a date night with your husband and maintaining a spotless house where husband comes home to every night to a rested wife ready to meet his every need!
However, even with a full life, you CAN make a nice additional income, purchase your own products and gifts for others at a discount and maybe even earn an incentive or two. And who knows, when the kids are older and the scout troop no longer needs you as leader, you can add a party or two to your schedule and earn that cruise.

Blu-Ray Set To Take The World By Storm!

Blu-Ray Set To Take The World By Storm!

The Blu-ray Disc belongs to a new generation of optical discs capable of staging high density data. Blu-Ray technology is based on a blue-violet coloured laser. The blue laser operates at a wave length of 405 nm, while older technology such as DVDs and CDs are based on red and infrared lasers that works at 650 and 780 nm. Since the wave length is shorter with a blue laser, the new Blu-ray technology makes is possible to store much more information
The advantage with the Blu-ray technology is that the laser beam can be focused much more tightly at the surface of the disc. Tight focus means that a smaller spot will be produced on the surface on the disc, and when the spots become smaller there will naturally be room for more information on each disc. The minimum spot size of any laser depends on a naturally accruing phenomenon called diffraction. The narrow beam of light sent out from a laser will always diverge into a wider beam eventually, due to the natural diffraction of waves. Diffraction will also occur the waves meet an obstruction. By reducing the wavelength of a laser, we can affect the diffraction.
In Blu-ray technology, the diffractions is also affected by the fact that the lens used to focus the light has a higher numerical aperture than the lenses found in ordinary DVDs – 0.85 instead of 0.6. Blu-ray technology based appliances are also equipped with a dual-lens system of supreme quality, and the cover layer has been made thinner in order to prevent unwanted optical effects. All this makes it possible for a Blu-ray laser to focus on much smaller spots. The optical improvements are accompanied with a new method for encoding data which makes it possible to store even more data on the Blu-ray disc.
The standard for Blu-ray technology has been developed as a joint venture between several major manufacturers of PCs and consumer electronics, including Sony and Philips. The group is called the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA). The first Blu-ray recorder was launched in Japan in 2003, by Sony. Today, Samsung, JVC, Matsushita (Panasonic) and LG Electronics are all examples of companies using Blu-ray technology in their products. Hewlett Packard has announced that they will release desktop PCs equipped with Blu-ray technology in late 2005.
The main competitor for the Blu-ray technology is the HD DVD format which is also capable of storing more information than a normal DVD. The Blu-ray technology does however allow for more information per layer than the HD DVD format – 25 GB compared to 15 GB. The Blu-ray technology will on the other hand most likely be more expensive to support, at least initially, which can make the HD DVD a tempting alternative. In a Blu-ray disc, the data is stored extremely close to the surface. This made the first Blu-ray discs extremely vulnerable to scratching and many users preferred the tougher HD DVD discs. Since 2004, all Blu-ray discs are coated with a clear polymer called “Durabis” which makes them much more durable. According to the developers of Durabis, the TDK Corporation, a coated Blu-ray disc will work even after being attacked with a screwdriver.

Jefferson Airplane book Take Me to a Circus Tent can be judged by its cover!

Jefferson Airplane book Take Me to a Circus Tent can be judged by its cover!

Review of Jefferson Airplane book- Take Me to a Circus Tent by author Craig Fenton.

Being a born skeptic it takes a lot to convince me that something is of merit. I don’t let a few words sway me. I was intrigued by reading a few 5 star reviews and gained further respect when superlative praise came for Mr. Fenton from founding group member Marty Balin.

Balin is quoted on the back cover as stating “Craig Fenton knows so much about the Jefferson Airplane and Family, I was asking him the questions.” I needed my own eyes to be the final judge.

The cover that Mr. Fenton proudly displays to Take Me to a Circus Tent is the original photo to the Jefferson Airplane’s second album Surrealistic Pillow. Mr. Fenton employed the services of one of San Francisco’s most well known photographers Herb Greene. He is responsible for the magnificent shot that was used for the album and after having CD’s shrink the priceless picture to an overgrown postage stamp it was a sight for sore eyes to see the classic group photo in 8.5 x 11 view.

To Mr. Fenton’s credit he not only presents the consumer with over 540 pages but does it without superfluous clutter. The book is actually several themes giving the buyer a reason that the positive responses are found everywhere beginning with Amazon.

Mr. Fenton takes us through over 120 live Jefferson Airplane appearances and documents the songs played, first and last time the tune would be heard on a concert stage, any special guests that landed, if a particular version was different on a given night, and if there had been misinformation about the show. He also presents us with what is found in the Jefferson Airplane studio vault. Mr. Fenton unveils 60 or so unreleased songs, alternate versions, jams, demos, etc. He sets the record straight on which tunes were censored and gives us insight on the versions that didn’t make it to the public. The detail is not only mind blowing but meticulous and coming from a writer yes but a fanatical fan.

Take Me to a Circus Tent is just getting warmed up. There are three other portions that will have you enthralled. As you flip the pages there are over ninety photos in the book. These aren’t the run of the mill same old yawn now pictures. He has two shots as rare as anything you have seen from the band. There are many photos from both the Great Society with Grace Slick and the Jefferson Airplane that have not seen the light of day. Herb Greene’s camera is all over the book.

Mr. Fenton was a former radio disc-jockey. It is evident when time for the interview section. By the way there are over thirty transcripted interviews with members of the Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship and some San Francisco friends. Mr. Fenton’s relaxed approach and impeccable knowledge of the groups helps bring out many things not previously in print. You’ll find out a singer that tried out before Signe Anderson got the job and the gentleman that played guitar during her audition. We find out what Hot Tuna member became part of a Jefferson Airplane song and wasn’t credited, and even which Great Society song the Airplane turned down to record (They did say yes twice).
Mr. Fenton’s section of questions and answers on the Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, Hot Tuna, SVT, KBC, and Wooden Ships feeds us enough information to digest for years.

Take Me to a Circus Tent is something special and wonderful under the big top.

The book is available through Amazon and a simple Google search will give you Mr. Fenton’s website and blog.

Bye,
